Horrible Landing Attempt
Im not going to joke about this one. This is serious, the Lufthansa Airbus A320 attempted to land in Germany in a wind storm with gusts up to 150mph, no lie. To make matter worse the Co-pilot was landing the aircraft. Read more at these links

I wouldn't call it a bad landing attempt, lots of strong winds there!!!
Also, 150 mph winds seem a little too much exhagerated to me...

No I was not a "Co"..gliders dont have co pilots, only pilots or students.
Just trying to correct the perception that a co-pilot is any less of an aviator than a pilot.
Oh i know they are not but it would make people more nervous to hear a CO was flying

ATC were in the tower, that is how the pilot got his wx info.
Co pilots have to fly..that's where captains come from so where do you get off saying that it make it worse that the co pilot was flying....it's not like the co has no clue about flying, it would be worse if the cabin crew were flying the approach.
I would say a missed approach or a touch and go....not a bad landing. The pilot realised this early and went around, that was the right thing to do.
Where did you get this BS 150 mph gusts??..all airspeed is given in knots. Read and learn.

Anyway I watched the CNN video, and for some reason ATC blatantly took them into a crosswind approach, instead of the perpendicular runway, leading into the wind. Needing to land was also not an issue as they were able to hold for about 10 minutes after the first go-around. Seems like a bad call on ATC's side for this case.

90 degrees crosswind limit for the A-320 and for non contaminated runway:
-T/O: 29kts gust 38kts
-Ldg: 33kts gust 38kts
Wind was 290/33 gusts to 49kts they used runway 23.
It is 60 degrees offset which gives roughly 28kts gust 43kts.

Man...I don't know what to say....luckly this didn't end in an accident. I guess everybody has put their comments according to their experiences. It would be interesting to know the crosswinds limits of the A320 and which was the wind component at the time of the landing.

Landing under those circumstances is a textbook definition of a BAD CALL.The passengers cheated death on that one.Making fun of the situation is purerly coincidental

First, I am glad that there was not a loss of life. Now, what does the Co-Pilot landing the aircraft have to do with it? As was mentioned, pilot or Co-pilot, that was a crazy situation that has the potential to get the best of anyone, regardless of experience.

Why not joke about it, since the things that might have happened didn't? At least get some fun out of this emergency. Blaming the pilot is stupid though, landing with such a crosswind is insane no matter how much hours you have logged.
So, continuing the US tanker b****ing: A 737 would have landed, but because it's such a speedy machine with moderate braking capibilities, it would have overrun the runway. h wait, we're compairing a plane from the sixties with a design from the nineties... Hmm, which will be better? And retarded Force says: *Dhuuuuugh, the A320, I guess, eeeeeeeeuh*.
And remember all wings are fine as long as there is some kind of a symmetry relative to the intended design :P
