Aircrafts lands at a speed of 250km/h (135Knots), stop in a distance of 90m (295ft), knowing that an usual landing requires 1500m (4900ft).

It's no suprise they would do this, the Rafale did all their land based carry qualifications in the US and NAS Lakehurst and NAS Patuxent River before ever flying from a French carrier. The CdG also uses the exact same C13-3 catapults as the NIMITZ class carriers. This why F/A-18 Bugs were able to visit the CdG.

i do like the look of the raphael. Its snappy handling seems to mean it would be like a cat on carpet around the sky. Such smooth approaches, first class piloting.

dawnovsky, the Rafale is not the first franch aircraft to be able to operate from US carrier: Super Etendard and F-8E(FN), and Alizées went numerous times abord US Carriers. The "cable" required to catapult these plane certainly isn't a limitation.

But it is true that the Rafale is the first french aircraft to feature a nose gear tow.

rafale is the first french aircraft to be able to oerated form US carriers . Before rafale planes were towed by a cable fixed to a hook on the belly insteed of beeing towed by the nose wheel. That s a huge step to improve the interoperability within the NATO

So kind of like the F/A-18 with the E/F landing at 135kts, and the F/A-18 ABCD approach speed of 134kts? Are you thinking about somthing like that aluuri?

No denying the Rafale is a sexy airplane. I wonder how the hornet did landing on a smaller deck

The most futuristic aircraft to land on a US CVN thus far. I like the smooth curves, and the cockpit.
