Certify Qualified - how often do they have do that ? I mean CQ not regural operations from the carrier ?
The first CQ for a pilot in training is daytime only in a T-45. Then a day/night cq in an FRS training squadron in the plane they have been chosen to fly. Currency in carrier landings is only good for a number of days. Once a pilot is out of currency he/she needs to qualify again. For fleet squadrons, CQs are typically done before on-board training excersises and before deployment. Chapter 6 of http://www.navyair.com/LSO_NATOPS_Manual.pdf goes into great detail about what is required to qualify once a pilot loses currency.
