old video ... but always good to remeber. As far as i remeber, they stop the project of operating jaguar on carrier because they were requesting heavy changes on the main gear struts. They were also on contest again the super etendrat witch was specially designed for navy use.

Yes Yorkmoute, but I was talking about the time when the Aeronavale thought in the F18 as an interim fighter to provide a stop-gap between the retirement of the F8 and the transition to the Rafale. The time when the Rafale project had a delay. The idea was remplace the F8, but not the SUE. Of course, now the Rafale is in service, with a little delay in the deliveries, though. But yes, now the Rafale is real, so in few years will remplace the SEU too.

Didn't know about the Jaguar been tested on carriers. Kind of small aircraft for the job. Anyway very interesting.

Indeed a very rare footage of this plane, which is a bit of a myth in the french aviation fan community. Thank you en52, I've been looking for such a video on the web for years, litteraly. Great post.

The main reason the program was dropped was because the plane could not perform a trap with only one engine. And in effect even Air Force versions of the Jaguar (M and E) were noticeably underpowered. The RAF even re-engined their own Jaguar with more powerfull versions of the Adour over the time, the Armée de l'air did not.
