It would have real advantages in the desert southwest. It is fast, so it can get to and from airports quickly. The CL-215 and 415 lose out in this region. There are few lakes for them to skim from, and the aircraft are slow. On the other hand, there are a number of WW2 vintage airports with long runways that are frequently used by firefighters. It's all a matter of region.

I think the two aircraft fight the fires in different ways the CL-215 or 415 fight the flames directly whereas the supertanker builds firelines to stop the spread which is what the P-3 or DC series aircraft do so I think your right in it does have its strengths but only if the aircraft work together

hmm, i think this movy is very in favour of the 747 here lol. better then 7 of the most popular firefighting planes? i dare say that the 7 Canadairs are allot more effective. they can get closer, more acurate, quicker refil, use lakes so less travel time and less fuel consumption ^^ although it prolly has it's strong points at some fires.
