I do believe that you need to READ the article completly that you took your 1 paragraff from.... The Article is about a weight loss program for the F-35B and the other variants. The B variant is the only one that is late (By 18 months) and the qoute that you use to downplay and insult and fine aircraft is based on the originial 1987 estiments which were thrownout when the craft was redeisigned after the end off the Cold War and the backout of NATO as partners for the development of the craft.
So Checksixx is correct and you are wrong...

I think your the one having trouble understanding frunhoff. Not surprised since your using info from 2006. First, they have gotten back on schedule...they applied some things things they learned from the Raptor program. Second, cost is down...WAY down...in fact it has stabilized so much that LM Aero just set firm, per airframe pricing...something thats never been done outside of the civil aircraft industry. Oh...not to mention that there are NO orders from ANYONE outside the United States right now...once that happens the price will eventually drop further. So you go take your 2006 crap and do some catching up...then come on back to the conversation.

Most first flights are with the gear down due to safety issues.

Nope, its on schedule and on budget....thats old news.

Nope, sorry. Maybe you don't understand. Once you slip past schedule you can't turn back time and be on schedule somehow. Same goes for the cost, you are high.

From the article:

"Design and assembly changes, mostly related to the SWAT recommendations, have cost about $4.8 billion%u2014part of a $6.2 billion replanning to accommodate the additional design cycle required to make the improvements. The replanning forced an 18-month slip in F-35 deliveries. According to a 2006 Government Accountability Office report, since inception, the development costs of the JSF program have increased 84 percent and its timeline slipped by about five years. The STOVL%u2019s final delivery deadline has been extended two years, to 2012."

The project is behind, and costing way more than was promised to the government. The 35 is a tru "turd bird".

Was such fanfare produced for the first F-14, F-16, F-18, or A-10 flight? It's like It's almost a miracle that it actually flies. Such an expensive waste. This plane is out of schedule and WAAAAY over budget.
