AAAAAY, no quisiera estar ahi cuando estan probando tremenda turbina. Las causas de la explosion las desconozco pero ahi tenemos el ejemplo cuando estas fallan y, peor aun, explotan. IMPRESIONANTE VIDEO. GRACIAS AL QUE LO SUBIO. GRACIAS DESDE CHILE.

Well, actually cam210 is right. Engines are mounted on pylons with shear pins designed so as to let the engine go would loads exceeding design loads be incountered. These loads can come from various sources. Blade failure, impact, gusts, flutter, etc. Or sometimes the pins can break due to corrosion :-P.

I dont know... i guess working at an MRO as a repair engineer might have something to do with my information. go check the engine pylons for passeneger aircraft. the engine mounts arent designed to take shear forces from the sudden stopping of the inertia of the engine. That airbus may have lost the engine in the water. But your wrong, the fans can easily be destroyed from a bird, even if they dont have a crack. And how often does a jet engine come apart, yeah it would be bad if it fell on a house, but its worse when it rips a wing off and kills everyone in the plane along with a bigger mess on the ground.

Cam210..wrong, the engine was missing due to it being ripped off from landing in the water.
Unless there was already a crack in the fan blade a bird would not cause this damage.
No engine is designed to break away in case of failure (where did you get that from?) Engineers would rather inspect what the cause of the failure was once the jet lands not go hunting all over the place for it....a jet that sheds it's engines would be disaster over population..THINK ABOUT IT !!!!

there's a difference between birds, damaging the fan and reaching the turbine to cause a flame out and blades coming lose (here tested with explosives) and crashing against the surface due to the high centrifugal force. the engine sheelding around de N1 fan has to withstand this. seen it in school recently, surf the net for more vids

the multi colored blade has an exploding root. they are testing fan blade failure to make sure that the fan casing can contain the engine parts as it comes apart. The engines are designed to break away from the aircraft during failure. A bird (or many birds) can cause an engine to do this. That is why one of the US airways engines was missing. Are most of the people on this site not from the US?

The sight no one wanna see... If in flight the shaking would probably rip off the engine. Mega disaster. Kid of scary to watch... But very informative. Thank for sharing...

I think the orange blades were the ones that were blown out deliberately to simulate a blade malfunction and what happens when the engine swallows the debri...:(
