Rare propaganda footage of WW2 German Ace
This is a short and rare clip of WW2 Luftwaffe ace Hans Philip. It also contains guncam footage of Philip downing what looks like a Russian LaGG-3.
Philip flew both the Bf109 and FW190 in numerous Luftwaffe theatres and campaigns of the Second World War but scored most of his victories over Russia at the onset of Operation Barbarossa in '41 and continuing the pace up until early '43 when he was transfered to the west to defend the factories of the 3rd Reich. And as quoted from www.jg54greenhearts.com :
"On October 8, 1943, the 8th AF dispatched 156 bombers to targets in Bremen and Vegesack. The force was escorted by 250+ Thunderbolts from six different fighter groups.
The Stab Flight of the Geschwader heard Philipp announce a victory over a Thunderbolt. The last tranmission from him was: "Reinhardt, attack!" Feldwebel Reinhardt was Philipp's wingman on this day. He last saw the Kommodore's aircraft disappear in a cloud. Reinhardt was wounded after colliding with an enemy aircraft, but made a successful forced landing. Later that evening, the Geschwader learned that their Kommodore had been shot down and killed."
Philipp scored 206 victories over the course of 500+ missions.

good score for hans Philip 206 victories. Best Finnish ww2 pilot was Ilmari Juutilainen with 92 victories. He did most of the victories with Brewster!!!!so there you see,you should never look kill ratio of a fighter(like F-15s unbeatable score)it depends who you are against at!Poor Russians were not proper fighter pilots so they were easy targets(like arabs for that mighty F-15)theres a good website for Finnish air war ww2 http://www.saunalahti.fi/~ambush/combat/cwacerace.html
Good point aluuri, sometimes it's the pilot not the plane that makes an ace. And that website is really detailed, very nice-thanks!
