We will see only UAVs in the sky soon but russians still produce 2 pilot fighter jet.
Also, the Su-34 is primarily a bomber. Almost all other bomber aircraft the world over, have 2 or more crew. The US is still making them, see the new two seat Super Hornet and it's many different versions (jammer). Also the F-15E is a 2 crew member bomber, and a relatively new development, in the same league and generation as the Su-34.
Since Su34 fighter/bombers flew at the beggining of 90s, they need 2 pilots to use it and focus on the target. But nowadays, fighter / bombers (4th &5th generation aircrafts) dont need 2 pilots because of their sophisticated avionics. So that make me feel that either Russians dont have know-how to develop an aircraft with sophisticated avionics which let you to use only 1 pilot, or mm.. err.. you tell me what? :)
You said it right. The Su-34 is a 90s design, the Russia's are behind in their development due to financial restrictions. They have other financial worries, whereas the American's are content to expend their billions on bombs and guns, and leave the rest of their fiscal and national responsibilities to waste away. Certainly the Su-34 is not in the league of the F-22 or F-35, but it is in the same league, as I said before, with the F-15E and the new Super Hornet, both of which in their primarily bomber configurations, use to crew members. As for Russia technologies, they are more advanced than the west in several key areas, missile technology both Air-to-Air and Surface to Air, see the S-300/S-400 and Tor M2E SAM systems, and their super long range Air-to Air missiles Novator R-172, R-77M and R-77MP and the now older but still highly deadly short range R-73. Also, Russia Low-Band VHF radars (the same radar type used to shoot down the American F-117 in Serbia), are well on there way to making small American stealth aircraft like the F-22 and especially the F-35 irrelevant).

Well the remotely piloted UAVs can be jammed, and no one is close to making an autonomous UAV yet. And while we're on the subject of piloted jets, what do you call the hugely expensive F-22 and F-35? While they may only have one pilot, they are a huge investment in "old" piloted technology.
If the US r&d officers were thinking just like you, wars were still running by naval forces. Im talking about the future not today. So, Su34 generation fighter / bombers' technology had been researched, developped more than 30 years ago, and today about to retired in USA and even in Europe. When Russia adds digital cocpits, upgrade some electronics and paint it good, it doesnt become a new generation fighter / bomber but a crap.
