Excellent vid, really well done. However the a/c seems more as a bomber than a real fighter.

I dont care what anyone says or how technical they try to prove themselves to be (cause heavens knows there are a lot of "us" aviation geeks here that know more than others care to) this is a fantastic video showing an awesome aircraft doing some awesome things!

Russia's low-band (X-band or VHF) radars are an especially interesting development, although an old technology for them the American stealth threat has made them suddenly useful again. Although some of these radars are large and lack shoot and scoot ability, they can be coupled to the S-300/S-400 SAM systems, and the S-400 in particular has a 300-400km range, which complements the range of these radar systems (see the 1L13-3 Nebo SVU, and 55Zh6-1 Nebo UYe systems). The low-band, long wave frequency these radars work on, makes the smaller stealth aircraft highly vulnerable (Serbia used an old low-band radar type coupled to an even older SAM missile type, to take out the stealth F-117).

Sorry, the R-77M and MP are still experimental, but no more so than American and European next generation BVR ramjet missiles. I also forgot to mention the Russian lead in cruise missiles, particularly anti-ship missiles like the Kh-41 Moskit, 3M-55 Yakhont, hypersonic sea skimming ship killers, (the Moskit has the American's so worried they actually contracted out to the Russian company to buy some to test with). Also Russia's lead in aerial sensors like the IRST which allows a fighter to find a target without giving itself away using radar, and Russia's advanced and highly powerful fighter radars AESA and others, as well as Russia's big lead in vectored thrust, see the new MiG-35 and various Su-27/Su-30/Su-35 designs.

Also, the Su-34 is primarily a bomber. Almost all other bomber aircraft the world over, have 2 or more crew. The US is still making them, see the new two seat Super Hornet and it's many different versions (jammer). Also the F-15E is a 2 crew member bomber, and a relatively new development, in the same league and generation as the Su-34.

Since Su34 fighter/bombers flew at the beggining of 90s, they need 2 pilots to use it and focus on the target. But nowadays, fighter / bombers (4th &5th generation aircrafts) dont need 2 pilots because of their sophisticated avionics. So that make me feel that either Russians dont have know-how to develop an aircraft with sophisticated avionics which let you to use only 1 pilot, or mm.. err.. you tell me what? :)

You said it right. The Su-34 is a 90s design, the Russia's are behind in their development due to financial restrictions. They have other financial worries, whereas the American's are content to expend their billions on bombs and guns, and leave the rest of their fiscal and national responsibilities to waste away. Certainly the Su-34 is not in the league of the F-22 or F-35, but it is in the same league, as I said before, with the F-15E and the new Super Hornet, both of which in their primarily bomber configurations, use to crew members. As for Russia technologies, they are more advanced than the west in several key areas, missile technology both Air-to-Air and Surface to Air, see the S-300/S-400 and Tor M2E SAM systems, and their super long range Air-to Air missiles Novator R-172, R-77M and R-77MP and the now older but still highly deadly short range R-73. Also, Russia Low-Band VHF radars (the same radar type used to shoot down the American F-117 in Serbia), are well on there way to making small American stealth aircraft like the F-22 and especially the F-35 irrelevant).

That's where I got my model X-35 JSF from, internethobbies.com. Because of the increasing demand for more capable fighters, and because fighters are becoming faster, more powerful, higher service ceiling, more lethal, etc., now the newest fighters are the best, most maneuverable, most powerful, most capable, stealthiest, most incredible, most advanced, and increased weapons options, and they are called superfighters. For instance, South Africa is retiring their Atlas Cheetahs for the Swedish SAAB JAS 39 Gripen(One reason contributing to aging in the Cheetahs), another example includes the Russian military requirement to replace some older types of attack aircraft, including the Mig-27, Su-17(That's what I read in some kind of book or an internet link or something), and the Su-24 Fencer(For which the Su-27IB(Fighter-bomber)/Su-32/Su-34 Platypus was primarily intended to replace. The payload on the superfighters is just incredible!! I also can't believe the payload of the Platypus, having tons of bombs on it, now that's also cool, too!!

Yet another great video of the Platypus!! Hey, for any other fighter freaks, like me, you can get great, superb, and incredibly accurate fighter models by visiting this website: www.hobbylinc.com. There's tons and tons of models on that website, including fighters, and lots more!! In fact, a vast majority of my model fighters came from hobbylinc.com, only one of my model fighters didn't come from hobbylinc, and that is my model X-35 JSF(Note that the F-35 and X-35 are not on hobbylinc, but you can get it on another great website, called www.internethobbies.com.)

Well the remotely piloted UAVs can be jammed, and no one is close to making an autonomous UAV yet. And while we're on the subject of piloted jets, what do you call the hugely expensive F-22 and F-35? While they may only have one pilot, they are a huge investment in "old" piloted technology.

If the US r&d officers were thinking just like you, wars were still running by naval forces. Im talking about the future not today. So, Su34 generation fighter / bombers' technology had been researched, developped more than 30 years ago, and today about to retired in USA and even in Europe. When Russia adds digital cocpits, upgrade some electronics and paint it good, it doesnt become a new generation fighter / bomber but a crap.

The first set dropped at 1:26 look different than those dropped at 1:29. The first set maybe ordinance and their dispensers? While the second set are definitely streaming some sort of liquid, but they look so small and too many to be all drop tanks.

What are they dropping at 1:26 and 1:29? Some of the dropped containers are streaming something, but they look too many to be drop tanks. They can't be bombs, as some of the dropped containers come pretty close to the tail end of the plane. Anyone know what those containers are?

It's definitely and awesome plane, but it seems that it must suffer in both areas of it's capabilities. It can't be as fast and maneuverable as a dedicated fighter and it doesn't have the payload of a dedicated bomber. Again, it is still a very cool plane.
