for your info french detachment in chad is a long history and they usually sent very good pilot their, the aicraft posted there are not state of the art ( juaguar until recently and now mirage ficr) but they do the job they is no air oposition ( lybia is no longer a threat) but they are doing a lot of air to ground straffind and dumb bombing. its much more quiet than it used to be in the 80' they saw a lot of action against lybian troops and french air defense forces even shot down a libyan blinder bomber in 85 86. ( with an hawk sam)
we lost around 10 fighter there in the past 20 years some of them due to enemy shilka of small arms fire the rest was due to attrition ( pilot error bird strike etc etc) tchad and djubouti are two very good external deployement fo french eir force pilot because there are no rule, ( its not allowed to fly this low in france anymore) there its no limit and no witness ;-)

Well, I refuse to get in the "I'm better then you are" game. But, I will say, regardless of what country I'm from (USA) that's just flat out one of the coolest vids I've seen in a long time! Pretty gutsy flying between the rocks too. As a fellow pilot, I really appreciate watching it, and wished I was there in person to witness it! Thanks for posting it.

This low flying is normal standard training practice for the French Airforce.
They even do this at area's in their own country.
During the holiday season they fly very low in the Dordogne area as well!!!!
and not only with mirages even their transport plains .....
And i mean LOW tree top LOW!!!!
But it looks very nice......

Mirage and Jaguar are operating for long in Chad. They have been deeply involved during 80's and 90's in fights for Libyan containment (at least two French aircraft have been shotdown), which have culminated with the bombing of the Libyan airfield of Ouadi-Doum with Jaguar. They are currently providing recon for Tchadian government against rebels sustained by Soudan, and have been engaged during past weeks in close air support to French troops threatened by rebels in Chad and Centrafrica. Mirage F1 is an old aircraft, far less performing than a F16 or a Mirage 2000, but a solid and rustic aircraft, with a strong undercarriage for dirt runways. Due to its age, it is a "low-value" aircraft, thus allowing "leisure missions"...
