F-22A Raptor At Langley 2006

The F-22A departs with a low speed vertical climb/hover followed by a pushover to level flight prior to going off to the hold point several miles away. Later it joins the A-10, F-15 and F-86 for the Heritage Flight. After those aircraft make indivdual passes, the Raptor sneaks up in a banana pass, pulls vertical at show center (think Su-27 style) and finally makes a missed approach. The not a demo was flown by Lt. Col. Michael Dozer Shower.

Hahaha. Its actually very quiet because its so powerful. The pilot didnt tell us specific power settings but he did have to throttle back in order to bring the jet to a stop in the vertical. Straight and level while subsonic uses so little (compared to 4th generation fighters) power that the first thing you'd hear is a JDAM going off.
Hopefully there will be an F-22 flyby at Atlantic City and if Lt Col Shower is flying, there's a good chance he'll do the same "non-demo" he did at Langley. We'll be sure to film and post it within 2 days.

Good video.
For a "Stealth" plane I'd say it is a bit too noisy for its own good!
Add an extremely annoying voice of a fat American woman and you will have have hearing problems!!

The Raptors will be doing Heritage Flights at various airshows around the US and this year. Not sure if there are going to be any flights overseas. If you're lucky enough to be where they're based or on TDY, you may see some "simple" takeoffs and multiple go-arounds. But when the official demo team is formed, that's when you're going to see things done that had formerly been the domain the Su-3x family.

I really liked this video. I am looking forward to seeing (and hearing) the Raptor more often.

If you read carefully you'll notice it wasn't nearly a full demonstration - something which won't happen until at least 2007 and more likely 2008. It was just a few passes to wow the crowd but nothing that pushed the limits.

Nice job, Chris.

That performance was rather dull after watching a few Russian fighter videos.
I guess the only thing our planes are good for is killing. :)

Yeah, this is the first normal sound Raptor demo video that I see, good bitrate sound, good quality image, no music. Just the bird.
I'm a eastern european and i think this is not a common low pass A to B american style demo, it contain some "russian" elements, lot of low speed action.
But the very big thing and the main cause that I would like to see in Europe this bird is the brutal sound!
This sound is a good mixture of the F-15, MiG-25, and MiG-23!
Brutal!
