Sukhoi T-4: The Prototype Bomber in Flight

Brief silent video of flight and landing of a prototype of Sukhoi T-4, Russian bomber.
The T-4 supersonic reconnaissance and attack weapons system (production code "100") was intended to search for and destroy large surface targets such as aircraft carriers and missile carrying ships as well as for reconnaissance. This concept arose in the early sixties. Primary design emphasis was on the development of an airframe capable of long range flight at three times the speed of sound. Maiden flight: 1972.

The Russians are well known for their ability to copy and reverse engineer American technology. A few examples: B-29/TU-4, F-111/SU-24, B-1B/TU-160. The T-4 is no different. It's very similar to the XB-70 in both planform (it's smaller) and technology. And a huge point is that...while they've "copied" us frequently as we've seen above....we've yet to "copy" one of their aircraft.
