Not bad! A bit on the fantasy side, but not bad! Now a days that Hornet can wipe that Mig out 15-20 miles away thanks to the AMRAMM and Aim-9X.

Nice in terms of action but unrealistic in the final result. MiG 29 would win in a real dogfight.

I am just wondering why Mig didnt shot he could several times,maybe he wanted to kill him wit stone.And I agree problem with theese videos is that they are too unrealistic!

Mig wont win. In dogfight you dont need hi gees and fast speed. Ok speed is important but Mig cant operate below 200-250 knots. Its too heavy. And Hornet has better antiradar system, better radar, better missiles,. anyway Mig is good but not good enough for hornet.. :) And in dogfight you dont go very fast. Dogfight is about fast movements and hi alfa angle.. In real situation hornet would´n get in a dogfight. The mig would be destroyded before the mig driver knew anything. Thanks to AIM-9X and hornets systems.

Blah blah w/e mister expert aim 9x is similair to R73 and where are swiss gonna get either of them, mig has its advantages over Hornet too like highr thrust stronger airframe its an even fight so don't get biased on your preferred jet. Hornet was in killzone plenty of times.

Do you really think that Mig would win?. Hornet is more capable than mig in every movement. In todays fights in air you dont need speed or hi g-forces. All you need is good missiles and good movement. That´s what hornet has to offer.. More ALFA angle than MIG. Better Radar. Better protection system like automatic flares/shaft.. And with AIM-9X on board you dont need to keep the opponent on your plane radar. The missile has it own.. Hornet wins even its a multirole fighter.. MIG is a airsuperity aircraft..

i talk to a Cf-18 pilot how have a chance to have a few dogfight between the germane mig in a nato exercice,and on 5 engagement the Cf-18 win,the pilote sais to me,when you know the capabylity of your opponent,you take advantage of is laking.....the Hornet is more light of the Mig-29,the hornet is in composite and more fast and flexible ...the mig-29 is made with alluminium.....but yhe mig have a very good engine ration,but poor agility below 200 knots...the hornet can fight between that easly,so the pailot have to take advantage of this situation....

but on hight speed dogfight,the mig have the advantage to take 9 G and sustane it for very longer than the pilote can take it....but the ornet can go to 8G,if she go more,sha can damage the airframe...

so everything is on the capabylity of the pilot and here tactic and situation awarness

an F-18 can beat migs. they did it in the gulf war so im sure a swiss F-18 in its element can kill a mig

i would like to know what was in that film before (when they say at begining that "mig2 is down" and at the screen is remaining mig marked as mig3).
does it mean that the hornet shut down (i know it is training exercise) in all 3 MiGs?

Yeah, I know that it was training. In any case, my point is that this clip is unrealistic, which most of you seem to agree with. By the way, the Red-Flag idea is good!

and that is problem of movies - they r unrealistic.

BTW even if it is training MiG should win ! ! ! that is all.

No one is shooting because its a training exercise. Thats the whole reason you hear the FDT call "All aircraft, mission completed, Knock it off, Knock it off" which means, "All aircraft, cease all actions, cease all actions"

Had the mission been a real op, the MiG would've downed that Hornet long before he knew it. And then again when he pings the Hornet. And then one more time during the mountain chase. The pilot, in reality, would have backed off some to sustain a lock, and fired.

The Hornet did fire guns (simulated of course, although not accurately portrayed) and thats why the MiG conducted a roll out.

So aside from the vid being from a movie and being unrealistic. It was all a training mission. I personally think those two guys need to go to Red Flag to figure out how its really done the next time they decide to try to make a movie.

Also, I read somewhere that the R-73 had an almost 1:1 kill ratio. That was quite a while ago, I'll look it up again though. I'm also pretty sure that the MiG is much more maneuverable then the Hornet so I doubt that the Hornet could out-maneuver the MiG in the first place. It's also funny that once the Hornet gets on the MiG's tail it starts "shooting" in 10-15 seconds, but if you look at the beginning of the clip, the MiG was on the Hornet's tail for quite a while, especially when they were flying straight into those mountains, the German pilot had quite a few clean-shot opportunities. So in conclusion: the German pilot would have killed the Hornet if that scenario was even remotely realistic.

The hornet didn't shoot either in case you haven't noticed. Also, doesn't the HMS-system switch to IR guidance at such close distances (R-73 or R-60, perhaps)? If so, the hornet pilot would have no idea that he was "locked" as it's an IR lock. All in all, this is bulls***.

Don't get me wrong, I love our jet (F-18), but I just think that this clip is unrealistic and frankly just plain propaganda. It isn’t wise to underestimate your enemy; Germany learned this rather harsh lesson in WWII when they were at war with the Russians.
