The pilot was Neil Anderson, and he was practicing the demonstration routine for Paris. He started a roll at the samt time as he was retracting the gear and the nosegear was torqued just enough to jam in the well. The landing went well, but as he slid down the grass next to the runway, he hit the slight mound left from earlier construction and the airplane was launched into the air again. It bent the inlet slightly on the second landing.

"Belly landed on a grass area next to the runway at Carswell AFB, Texas. Aircraft was only slightly damaged, but never flew again. It was scheduled to appear at the Paris air show but due to the mishap the first prototype was sent."
