NASA Tailplane Icing Video

A very informational video about the tailplane icing and subsequent aerodynamic effects. A very interesting result of this testing was the fact that the tail stall was much more severe as power and speed increased. Considering the tail stall recovery technique is the exact opposite of the usual stall technique, it is very dangerous.
I wanted to post this in light of the tragic crash of Continental 3407 in Buffalo the other day. Icing is already a prime suspect in the accident. Tailplane icing is scary stuff, even in the jet I fly it was a huge concern if our horizontal stab anti/de-ice broke in icing conditions.
Hope this is informative.

I may be mistaken but it seemed that it said the the plane pitches nose down when the flaps are extended. In my experience the nose pitches up. Otherwise very good

"Remember, in almost all tailplane icing accidents the cockpit hits the ground first.." Brrr.. Not nice. Let's avoid that...
