On 2 Nov 2007, a MOANG F-15C s/n 80-0034, broke up during a basic fighter maneuver training sortie. The upper right longeron failed subsequently placing a higher load on the remaining cockpit structure causing a catastrophic failure of these supports. The cockpit separated from the aircraft just aft of the pilot's seat. The pilot, Maj Stephen Stilwell, ejected successfully with minor injuries.
This is the accident that led to the grounding of all USAF F-15s this past fall.
