AUSSIE HORNET
In October 1981, Australia signed a contract for the provision of 75 F/A-18 Hornet aircraft , of which 18 were two-seat aircraft configuration. The first two aircraft were produced in the United States, with the remainder being assembled by the Government Aircraft Factories (GAF) in Victoria, Australia . The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) received it's first Hornet at RAAF Base Williamtown's No. 2 Operational Conversion Unit (2OCU) in May 1985. 2OCU commenced Hornet Pilot Training shortly after in August 1985. As such, 2005 the RAAF will celebrate 20 years of successful F/A-18 Hornet Operations. F/A-18 Hornet A21-26, a single seat RAAF Hornet aircraft has been painted in a celebratory ' Year of the Hornet ' anniversary paint scheme.
Rooivalk "African Sky"
This past festive season gave me some time to be a little creative so i used two images that i photographed and created this dramatic "painting". The Rooivalk helicopter(16Sqn) fired these rockets during a training operation near Bloemfontein and the sunset i photographed from a moving car near Johannesburg, South Africa.
Wallpaper F-16
A nice closeup photo of a viper driver, probably taken from a tanker boom controller's point of view.
It's nice to be used as a wallpaper on your desktop, isn't it?

Cockpit sunshade!
Captains can have very creative ideas some times!
This particular one, "professionally" managed to use his personalized checklist (checking the copilot mostly) and some beautiful "Head Up Display" also, to rest his eyes on it, during the long and boring auto pilot flight hours.
All that, combined in a shade to keep the sun rays out of the cockpit...!!!

Oryx "Vultures"
Oryx helicopter from 17Sqn, Swartkop, South Africa, landing in a very confined space in the upper Drakensberg mountain, in a waterfall. This was a really scary experience for me. The rockfaces are metres away from the bladetips on three sides.
Apache Longbow at sunset
The AH-64D Longbow is fitted with the Longbow millimetre wave fire control radar and the Longbow Hellfire missile.
The Longbow fire control radar incorporates an integrated radar frequency interferometer for passive location and identification of radar-emitting threats.
An advantage of millimetre wave is that it performs under poor-visibility conditions and is less sensitive to ground clutter.
The short wavelength allows a very narrow beam width, which is resistant to countermeasures.

C-185 "Photorecce"
C-185, stationed at 44Sqn, Air force Base Waterkloof, Pretoria, South Africa flying a tactical navigation and photo reconnaisance sorty. These old, little aeroplanes have served our air force for many years and you will not convince any of these 185-pilots that there is a better plane on the planet.
Oryx helicopter "Hugging the mirror"
Oryx helicopter from 15 Squadron Durban South Africa flying very fast and very low over the water in the Drakensberg mountains. It was a windless day and I asked the Oryx pilots to perform this manouvre.

Agusta LUH-109 from 17-Squadron flown by Major Pipes in the Drakensberg mountains, South Africa. I asked the pilot to hover under a cloud to get a cool photo of the vapour-trails on the wingtips, but no joy. I placed the photo anyway.
