It's your own point of view of course.
Finally, I have some affection for you.
EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- Capt. Brain Ferguson reviews his flight plan before proceding to his jet during an exercise here May 24. Captain Ferguson is an F-16 Fighting Falcon pilot assigned to the 18th Fighter Squadron. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Anthony Nelson Jr.)
In French Air Force a MOPP Level 5, (4bis in some other words), is less restrictive than level 4 about NBC protection, strictly against toxic agents in vapor-phase.
In FAF, A MOPP level higher than zero requires to wear NBC protective gear.
I never heard about a MOPP Level Alpha...maybe a FPCON Level Alpha, no ?
My MOPP "infos" come from my memory, and my FAF aircrew's manual. Please checksix, I'm here for the fun, not to be involved in controversy about helmets or NBC.
First, I said he(they) could be simulating it, not that it offered any protection from actual NBC threats.
Second, For pilots/aircrew they would be wearing a MBU-13/P under the flight helmet whether on the ground or in the air...its a one size fits all. They would also have on CP undercoverall's. They could also be covered with an aircrew cape and footwear covers to prevent contamination to/from the aircraft.
Third, I'd love to know where you got your MOPP info, cause its wrong. MOPP 0 requires you to wear your mask carrier and have your IPE accessible within 5 minutes. I won't cover MOPP's 1 through 3. MOPP 4 is the only MOPP level that requires all your IPE on. The next MOPP level is MOPP level Alpha...I will not go into that one either.
-Schooling complete-
Firstly, Outside of its aircraft, a pilot isn't protected by its flying helmet, suit, and oxygen mask (an oxygen mask has no filter against gas attack) , whatever level severity of chemical or biological attack. Therefore this is not a solution in a MOPP level 5, 4, 3, 2 or even 1.
Secondly, cockpit don't protect against NBC attack too. Since outside, contaminated air can traverse the engine or SPU, ECS bleed air components, cooling system, aircycle machine, and distribution ducting rapidly.
A MOPP level higher than zero REQUIRES to wear NBC protective gear, even for a simulation. French and US pilots face serious problems due to increasing requirements for use of chemical-biological defense garments. Although pilots are accustomed to wearing visors and oxygen masks, NBC protective gear increases heat stress. Actually it's the big problem.
Knob! Is he attatched to an oxy rig? I guess not, so what is he breathing?, ah... the hose is folded into his armpit. Most pilots don the mask and lower visors once in the aircraft. I'm supprised he has settled for just two pens in his sleeve pocket.
Hello Rabbit,
Captain Ferguson posed for this photo. It was just for fun...
... About pens, can i offer you a pencil case for your next flight ? ;-))
