The Iranian Air Force has a respectable number still in service, and they are in excellent shape from the photos seen. I know of one recent encounter with our AC with at least 16 of them. Keep in mind that they are A models also. The USN unfortunately SCRAPPED most of thiers, which were upgraded B models with new engines and new D models claiming it was for economy, despite the fact that the new engines and electronics etc saved considerable costs. The Iranian ones are now painted grey though. These F-14As, if well flown, would still be a considerable threat.
It seems that they have upgraded the F-14 avionics and its fire control system too, even Iranian were the first users who created Bombcat(capable of bombing), so I think that not only the apparent color of them has been changed, but also they have been equipped with modern systems,in better capability, all of this info is absoloutely secret

This could be the infamous "79th" Tomcat built under the Shah's order, it was held up and impounded when the Islamic Revolution took place. I believe it was refitted and pressed into Navy service.
Actually it was the 80th Tomcat that was held back.
they need to let it rust....scrape some paint off and throw on a few random parts and then it would look more like a true Iranian F-14....

Photoshop about 20 more of the same tail number in the back ground then it would look like an Iranian F-14.
