Dude, planes need to be painted up flashy. People put more love, passion, time, sweat and tears into things which are "customized". Believe me this plane probably gets an extra wash every day to stay shined up and an extra walk around is always worth it on a plane, especially one this old. USN CAG birds get full squadron colors and markings so everyone knows who's plane it is and whose in charge. Paint is great plus any piece of metal, whether it's steel, aluminum or titanium will never rust as long as it's got paint on it.
