They adapted the MIM-23 for BVR role for immediate wartime use, and also because they had a plentiful stock of the missiles, whereas a lack of thermal batteries for the AIM-54 brought its stocks to a low of 50 in 1987. When the war ended in 1988, they began indeginous reverse engineering and upgrade of the AIM-54. If someone knows how many they've produced and what upgrades they've made, let me know.

how old is this picture???? Its not new thats for sure. From what I know they shot all of their Aim54's in the iran iraq war...

Actually they have not been able to reverse engineer the missile. But they have adapted the HAWK missile for carriage on the F-14.
