USN F-14 Tomcat From "Bounty Hunters" VF-2

Pacific Ocean (May 18, 2003) - An F-14D Tomcat assigned to the "Bounty Hunters" of Fighter Squadron Two (VF-2) comes in for a landing aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation (CV-64) after completing Aerial Combat Maneuvers (ACM) training. Constellation and embarked Carrier Air Wing Two (CVW-2) are on a regularly scheduled deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).

Why not, the still use the F-14, the also have Mig-29 and I know that they want like a 100 Su-30MK. Thats not an enough threat?

Well the F-14B/D had numerous advantages to the F/A-18E/F including more payload, more speed, more range, greater versatility and more powerful sensors. Just to name a few, but what came down to it in the end was, as with all things that deal with politicians......money. Never mind a Superbug cost a bit more new than a rebuilt Supercat, one nail in the coffin was the fact the maintenance costs on the Supercat were roughly three times the Superbug, partly due to their age and partly to the Supercat's more sophisticated arrangement. The other nails in the coffin were the money Boeing used to blind the politicains from makeing the proper choice as to what was best for the Navy. Money.....it does make the world go round.
