This kind of vapor cone only occurs at transonic, (and not supersonic), speed. This is the result of the Prandtl-Glauert singularity, a visible phenomenon explained by the combination of fluid mechanics and aerodynamic laws. Not mix up with lift or vortex generated condensations, occurring during high-g maneuvers.
