The aim 54 a is not the most advanced version of the phoenix. The most advanced version of the phoenix is the aim 54 c+ but which was ceased to be produced because most of the f14 squadrons retired http://www.astronautix.com/lvs/phoenix.htm.

The AWG9 is outdated by today standards I am not also mentioning the problems that the engines the f14a had. Plus no maintenance and no essential upgrades were done the IIAF f14s. Perhaps Iranian f14s shoot the same missiles than the su27/33/37 family of planes? Perhaps it has a russian radar and russian engines of the su27/33?
As of 2005, the F-15 in all air forces has a combined kill record of 104 kills to zero (confirmed) losses in air combat. To date, the air superiority version of the F-15 (F-15A/B/C/D models) has never been shot down by an enemy aircraft, although some F-15s have been claimed by surface-to-air missiles of the Syrian Air Force (however, most sources say that, to date, no F-15s have been shot down in air-to-air combat).

The air arm of the Iranian armed forces has drawn a lot of media attention lately by revealing some of the locally produced and upgraded hardware during the Khoramshahr Air Exhibition held in May and June 2002 and the Iran International Air Show held at Kish Island (OIBK) in October and November 2002. Iran is clearly trying to achieve a totally self-sufficient armaments capability and is doing quite well taking into account that the arms trade had come to a total stand-still since the 1979 revolution. Some of the projects currently undertaken by the local industries like the Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industries (IAMI) in conjunction with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) are:
The Simorgh is a Northrop F-5A to F-5B conversion by the Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industries (IAMI) at Shahin Shahr Isfahan
Shafagh, a two-seat Advanced training and Attack aircraft that is allegedly based on the Russian-Iranian "Project Integral". Plans are to produce three versions of the Shafagh. One two-seat trainer/light strike version and two one-seat fighter-bomber versions. They will be fitted with Russian ejection seats.
Parastu (Swallow), a reverse-engineered Beech F33 Bonanza
Azarakhsh (Lightning), a reverse engineered F-5E.
JT2-2 Tazarv, the third prototype of the jet-powered Dorna (Lark) which is a light trainer
Shahed 274, a locally designed light helicopter with a combination of components of several helicopter-types, mainly the Bell 206.
Shavabiz 75, a reverse-engineered Bell 214C
Project 2061, a reverse-engineered Bell 206
Project 2091, an upgrade program of the AH-1J
Iran-140, a license built Antonov An-140
I personally think that this is unsuficient but we dont know( at least I dont)what is in their contract whit Russians "Ако будем срећан да остварим бар неке од својих идеала,то ће бити доброчинство за цело човечанство.Ако се те моје наде испуне,најслађа мисао биће та-да је то дело једног Србина" Никола Тесла

Iran still has about 40 of each aircraft (roughly enough for three squadrons of each).
Iran has around 86 F-4s ( 71 F-4Es, 15 F-4Ds) and 66 F-5Es, plus some F-5Fs and RF-4C/Ds.
This force has been kept in service, despite the reported sabotage of Iran’s AIM-54 Phoenix missiles by technicians as they were on their way out.
The AIM-54 Phoenix missiles were never sabotaged and were used throughout the Iraq Imposed War.
Today, Iran has 50-55 airframes, but can only keep one squadron of Tomcats airborne.
Iran has about 57 F-14As, with three squadrons (approx. 35 aircraft) active at anyone time.
Iran ended up with at least 30 MiG-29S (and probably as many as 62) in three squadrons.
Iran has around 44 MiG-29B("A")/C/UBs.
Iran also got a fair number of Su-24 Fencers (16-18 of which were from Saddam’s regime), that are organized into one squadron.
Iran recieved 24 Su-24MKs from Iraq and purchased 12 from Russia. There was subsequent attrition orders of 4-5 aircraft. Iran has now around 40 Su-24MK Fencers organized into 4 to 5 squadrons.
Both HAWK and Standard surface-to-air missiles have been rigged onto Iranian aircraft – possibly for anti-radar missions.
The HAWK and Standard were coverted into medium range air-to-air missile. I haven't heard about the HAWK, nevertheless the Standard, being used as anti-radiation missiles. The F-14A can possibly use the R-73 "Archer".
The Iranians have also rigged the F-4 to carry the Chinese C801 anti-ship missile.
And certain high end Russian anti-radiation missiles.
The Revolutionary Guard has a force of Chinese and Russian aircraft (30 J-7 Fishbeds, 18 J-6 Farmers, and 44 Su-20/22 Fitters). .
The roughly 35 F-7N's were transferred to IRIAF a long time ago. The F-6s (MiG-19s) are used only for training. The 40 Su-22s and 4 Su-20s were evaluated but never put into service. The remain in storage. The IRGCAF does operate 12-15 Su-25K/UBKs.

Iran has a powerful BVR firepower in the Land, in the Sea and in the Air.
interesting info Skyvel. Iran maybe has upgraded soem of its planes but they are far to be on the same level than Irsael aviation.

Well, it will be an Air attack, there is not much else to say on the matter, if you cant talk politics then that's all that can be said, after all , any act of war is an option open to politicians. My opinion is that it's a HUGE mistake, as was Bosnia, Iraq even veitnam, it wont solve anything and will cause even more resentment toward the US by the rest of the world. There is no reason to attack Iran, the guys are just wanting to turn on a light switch, if they have nuclear power then it will free up some oil that is currently being used to fuel their power stations, so the price of oil may drop. Of course if the US blows up the power stations and refineries and the nuclear plants then it will get messy with retaliation attacks. Not to mention any nuclear fuel that will be spread around from the explosions, making it an act of bravery just to walk around without an NBC suit. Look at Iraq and the horror caused by the use of DU weapons, both delivered by the A10,tanks and field guns. Again it's just my opinion, but there were no WMD's in Iraq and there is no threat from Iran.
ok well im glad ur not president becasue if u let them go ahead with there nuclear program u could wake up to nuclear bomb right by u. Think about it if the build a nuclear weapon and give to a terroist what do u do know?
sorry but u guys are idiot how the hell are we going to have a ground attack on iran why would u? when u can pin point and bomb there nuclear facilites. plus right now the us military is strecthed to thin we are every where we wouldnt have enough soldiers to do the job alone. Why would u send in men where not fighting a war u dont have to send in soldiers to blow up a nuclear powerplant gosh u guys are frekin idiots.

Ummmm, very clever, wich terrorist would that be...not those Arabs that flew jets, saudi Arabia is a powerful ally with the US, so it wouldn't be them would it? Could it?....ummmm
So what you are saying is that there is only one possible use for nuclear fuel..and that would be weapons...wake up to yourself, taking spent fuel from a reactor and turning it into something useable as a weapon is not as simple as an extra two minutes in the microwave oven, even for a dirty bomb. It would seem by your reasoning that there is only one nation on this planet who can have nuclear energy , and that would be the only nation who has ever used nuclear weapons against humans...twice..the good ol USA..is that what you are saying?
Give me 2 good reasons why any other nation cannot have nuclear power? The oil will run out, in 30 to 40 years, even if new reserves are found, and considering that most American power plants are run on oil it would seem like a good idea to swap to nuclear power. There is no good reason to bomb Iran...just 'cause they want to turn on an electric light.
Oh for the record, they are still looking for WMD's in what's left of Iraq...still finding startled goat hearders though...keep lookin boys.

Well we shouldnt turn this discussion into political, but WMD in Iraq was just an excuse.
Russians are helping Iranians with CIVIL nuclear program and they are not crazy to sell to them wepon plans and allow another nuclear force in werry s***y region.
IF you look at things objectivly Iran cant make nuclear bomb in 20-30 years even if such thing is allowed to them.

Just for the record, no war can be won by airpower alone, sure you can soften up the ground and destroy a lot of targets, but the final victory belongs to the man with a rifle in his hand, who has to then go in and face the civilain population who no doubt are none too impressed about the so called pin piont bombing raids that have destroyed the city.
All aircombat removes the actual personal confrontation out of a battle, it's a very clinical environment where you dont see the remains of the firepower that has been unleashed.
Keep that in mind while you salivate in anticipation for the next lot of 'cool' or should I say 'kewl' combat footage should the US take it upon it'self to try and bomb the world into peace.

sorry i wouldnt no even though my dad is in the army and a ranger and who has worked with black ops. oh he the one that told me their would be no need for soldiers in iran where not fighting a war u dont need man power to destroy a nuclear powerplant. if they run out of energy their allies can help them ask the un. u cant trust a country that dosent follow the rules as us and other countrys have told them 2 stop.

But the US isn't even paid up in it's dues to the UN, so who's not following rules?

Hey guys, lets try and keep this discussion about aviation. Take your political discussions about "rule-sets" and the like elsewhere please.
Hope you understand where I'm coming from,

gunfighter,
the discussion is about an attack from the air, by aircraft...so that would be aviation related right? since military pilots dont make policy, they act on orders given by politicians, then the whole discussion is going to head down 'that' path.
Keep it real

For the record, rabbit, the last two posts in this forum (one of which was yours), have not been related to aviation in any sort of manner.

Please keep this discussion about a possible outbreak of hostilities with Iran and the subsequent use of aviation in the war.

1- can anyone tell me why US spend more money today in nuclear weapons than when they were in the cold war?!
2- and why they can have this weapons and other countries not?!
3- why the UN exist if United States order in the world?!
4- why Russia is in the group G8 + Russia!? Afraid of them?! Afraid of its army? Off course, cause there are countries better than Russia in the economy...
